Civil & Employment
Civil and employment lawyer in Brazil
I help prevent and resolve civil and employment disputes in Brazil, favoring negotiation whenever it serves you best.
On the civil side, I advise companies and individuals on contracts, collections, damages and liability under the Brazilian Civil Code (Lei 10.406/2002). The work often starts before any dispute, with a review of risks and guidance on documenting the relationship properly, and moves to negotiation or court when needed.
On the employment side, I advise employers and employees on relationships governed by Brazil’s labor code, the CLT, including hiring, terminations, working hours and severance. I pay particular attention to foreign employees, where labor rules intersect with immigration requirements, and I look for balanced settlements before a case goes to court.

FAQ
Common questions
Is it worth trying to settle before filing a lawsuit?
Often it is. A settlement can save time, cost and strain for both sides, provided it’s balanced and well drafted. Not every case lends itself to negotiation, and the answer depends on the facts; we can talk through yours in a consultation.
Do foreign employees in Brazil have the same labor rights?
Generally, yes. A foreign national employed in Brazil under the CLT is entitled to the same labor rights as a Brazilian employee. The employer must also comply with the immigration rules on work authorization.
Is there a deadline to bring an employment claim in Brazil?
Yes. Brazilian law sets limitation periods that run from the end of employment and apply to the amounts claimed. Because missing them can affect your rights, it’s wise to seek advice soon after the job ends.
Shall we talk about your case?
